The first Public Service Commission was set up on October 1st 1926. The Constituent Assembly, after independence, saw the need for giving a secure and autonomous status to Public Service Commissions both at Federal and Provincial levels for ensuring unbiased recruitment to Civil Services as also for protection of service interests. With the promulgation of the new Constitution for independent India on 26th January, 1950, the Federal Public Service Commission was accorded a constitutional status as an autonomous entity and given the title – Union Public Service Commission. The Union Public Service Commission have been entrusted with the Recruitment to services & posts under the Union through conduct of competitive examination, Advising on the suitability of officers for appointment on promotion as well as transfer-on-deputation, Advising the Government on all matters relating to methods of Recruitment to various services and posts etc.

The Union Public Service commission will hold the Geologists’ Examination 2010 commencing from 4th December, 2010 for recruitment to Geologist (Junior), Group A and Assistant Geologist Grade-I, Group B in the Geological Survey of India and Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist B) Group A in the Central Ground Water Board. The examination will be held at various centres across the country
The Category of posts to which recruitment is to be made on the results of examination is given below:
Geologist (Junior) Group A
Posts: 277
Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist B), Group A
Posts: 04
Assistant Hydrogeologists, Group B
Posts: 12
Age limit: Candidates should be between 21-32 years as on 1.1.2010.
Qualification: Candidates should have a Master Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized University or Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology or Master Degree in Mineral Exploration or Master Degree in Hydrogeology from a recognized University. 

Note: 
Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards for Indian Geologist’s Examination, 2010.
