Jamia Millia Islamia was established in 1920 . In Urdu language, Jamia means ‘University’, and Millia means ‘National’. By a Special Act of the Parliament, Jamia Millia Islamia was made a central university of India in December 1988. In the list of the Faculties, i.e. Education, Humanities & Languages, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences. Engineering & Technology, one more Faculty – Faculty of Law, was added in 1989. Many new courses and programmes at UG and PG levels have since been added.

Jamia Millia Islamia invites applications for various post on contractual basis:

1. 2 posts are for Chair Professor
   Pay scale: As per the UGC norms
   Qualifications: Candidate should be a regular faculty member at a University / College affiliated to a University at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
   Experience: At least 8 years of experience as Associate Professor.
2. 3 posts are for Readers ( Associate Professors )
   Pay scale: As per the UGC norms
   Qualifications: Candidate should have Ph.D degree in Child Development / Education /
   Community Health or allied disciplines with 55% marks at masters degree level .
   Experience: At least 8 years of experience of teaching and / or of research in a regular position equivalent to that of a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in a University / College or Accredited Research Institution with evidence of published work.
3. 3 post are for Lecturer ( Assistant Professors )
   Pay scale: As per the UGC norms
   Qualifications: Candidate should have 55% marks in Masters degree level in the relevant subject (Social Work, Psychology and Nutrition) from an Indian University , or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign University.
4. 1 post for Statistical Assistant
   Pay scale: Rs.25000/- consolidated
   Qualifications: Candidate should have 55% marks at the Masters Degree level in the relevant subject (Statistics or Mathematics) from an Indian University.
   Experience: 2 years of experience of working in the area of research in a large organisation
5. 1 post for Communication Assistant
   Pay scale: Rs.25000/- consolidated
   Qualifications: Candidate should have 55% marks at the Masters Degree level in the relevant subject i.e. communication .
6. 1 for Assistant Capacity Building
   Pay scale: Rs.25000/- consolidated
   Qualifications: Candidate should have 55% marks at the Masters Degree level in Social Work, Psychology, Home Science, Nutrition.
7. 2 post for Research Assistant
   Pay scale: Rs.25000/- consolidated
   Qualifications: Candidate should have 55% marks at the Masters Degree level in the relevant subject (  Home Science, Nutrition, Social Work, Psychology) and should be familiar with research process and procedures.
8. 1 post for Accounts Officer
   Pay scale: Rs.25000/- consolidated
   Qualifications: Candidate should have the degree of PG in Commerce with the knowledge of Accounts & Filing and computers.
9. 1 post is for Administrative Assistant ( Accounts )
   Pay scale: Rs.20000/- consolidated
   Qualifications: Candidate should be graduate in Commerce with the knowledge of Accounts & Filing and computers.
10. 2 posts are for Administrative Assistant ( Administration and Data Entry )
     Pay scale: Rs.20000/- consolidated
    Qualifications: Candidate should be graduate with the knowledge of Accounts & Filing and computers.
11. 1 post for Semi Professional Assistant
    Pay scale: Rs.20000/- consolidated
    Qualifications: Candidate should be Graduate with Certificate in Library Sciences .
